The suburban city of Sugar Land, TX, is located in Fort Bend County, about 19 miles southwest of downtown Houston. Sugar Land covers more than 32 square miles of land around the junction of I-69 and State Highway 6, home to a growing population of roughly 118,000 people.
The Sugar Land area grew around a large sugar plantation in the 19th century, and the Imperial Sugar Company was formed in 1908. Sugar Land then thrived as a company town, incorporating as a city in 1959. Today it’s one of the most affluent and fastest-growing communities in Texas, with the Imperial Sugar crown logo featured in the city seal. Sugar Land Town Square serves as the city’s primary entertainment district.
