League City, TX
League City, Texas, is part of the Greater Houston metro area, located in Galveston County. More than 102,000 people live across about 51 square miles of land, with Interstate 45 cutting through the center of town en route to the Gulf Coast.
Three families— the Butlers, the Cowarts and the Perkinses— are considered the founders of the city, which saw its first residents around 1873. Several oak trees known as the Butler Oaks were planted in 1907, and many line Main Street to this day. Incorporated in 1961, League City is now home to a number of waterfront vacation destinations. More families have moved into League City in recent years, partly because of rising real estate costs in nearby Galveston.
