Katy, TX
The city of Katy, Texas, is located west of Houston along Interstate 10. Incorporated as a municipality in 1945, Katy covers more than 11 square miles of land, home to roughly 16,000 people.
The town was first settled in the 1890s, at which time Katy became a stop along the MKT Railroad into Downtown Houston, parallel to present-day I-10. The source of the fertile Buffalo Bayou floodplain is located near Katy, which for decades has made the region an attractive place for rice farming. Since the 1960s, Katy has slowly blended into Houston’s rapid westward growth while also earning the nickname the “City of Churches.” Katy maintains such popular spots as Katy Mills Mall and its historic town square.
