Pearland, TX
The city of Pearland, Texas, is located on the south side of the Houston metro area, just below the Sam Houston tollway between Fresno and Friendswood. Almost 120,000 people live across a land area of roughly 48 square miles, most of it in Brazoria County.
The community was originally named “Mark Belt” in the late 1800s, but with the site of many pear trees it was soon decided that “Pearland” was a better name. Developers promoted the area as an “agricultural Eden,” with the first subdivision called “Suburban Gardens.” Today, more than 80 percent of Pearland is residential. The city contains many master-planned communities, while home to the Pearland Recreation Center and Natatorium, Houston’s largest recreational indoor facility.
